Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is an incredibly useful anesthetic agent. Its technical class is as a dissociative anesthetic. In low doses, it is useful as an analgesic (pain-relief) and anxiolytic (anxiety-reduction). More recently, it’s off label use has been shown to improve a variety of mental health concerns. It is available only by prescription and it is now considered a non-classical psychedelic and using it in a safe “set and setting” can contribute to profound insights and changes. As with all other psychedelics, Ketamine is not a magic cure and the benefits are most seen when used in conjunction with therapy and other lifestyle changes.

Benefits

This powerful, quick-acting and and quick to wear off psychedelic is notable in the way that it distracts the user from the pain. Unlike opiates, which simply block pain receptors, it is psychological in nature and can elicit a state of wonder by manifesting extraordinary visuals and inspiring a deeply felt presence.

When coupled with therapeutic integration, Ketamine has shown to be helpful for the relief of treatment-resistant depression and trauma-related (PTSD) symptoms such as anxiety, hopelessness, disordered eating, and poor sleep. Ketamine also is not sertonergic so clients do not need to stop using their psychiatric medications in order to participate in this modality.

Satori Health and Wellness

Satori Health and Wellness

Satori Health offers alternative mental health therapies that are research-based to treat depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Our philosophy is to provide safe, effective, and meaningful ketamine therapy. Ketamine can be effective in up to 70% of patients and works best when you develop a therapeutic relationship with your provider. We provide psychological support the entire time you are at Satori, which means you are safe to explore the depths of your mind.

Most clinics will leave you unattended during your treatment and treat several patients at a time. While this can be profitable for those clinics, we believe it is not safe patient care.

We sit with you during your ketamine treatment, one-on-one, the entire session. That is the Satori philosophy. Ketamine often places you in an altered state of consciousness and unlocks the deepest portion of your mind. While this is often needed to relieve you of depression or trauma, it’s essential that you are attended by a trusted provide who can give you psychological and emotional support. Through our process of integration, we make sense of the ketamine experience together.
